Code it out!

Now, that semester 3 has come to an end, it’s time to look back to things that successfully executed with no compilation errors . Yes, we are indeed talking about ‘Coder of the Week’ that was organized by BML’s ACM Student Chapter last semester.

We at ACM, shared the thought, that not everyone seems to be excited by programming. And, to resolve this, ‘Coder of the Week’ came into existence. We released an interesting programming problem each week, in the hope of getting the college to start coding.  The problems were divided into 2 categories  based on their difficulty, JARVIS: the difficult category and HAL9000: the simpler category.  Yup, choosing AI titles is intentional and so is putting JARVIS above HAL9000. All the problems were hosted on GitHub for easy code sharing.

The event went well. Their was participation, especially from the new juniors batch. I vividly remember solving a junior’s programming problem in mess, with food in my mouth. I had people coming up to me, asking more about the event and their desire to participate. In all, the event did somewhat accomplish it’s objective. We, say somewhat, chiefly because even though the participation was less, the event did attract a lot of non-coder’s interest.
